"Well, the class started a general fascination with Everest because their English teacher is an Everest fanatic herself. In our text book is an excerpt from John Krakauer's Into Thin Air, which we read as a class. We then watched the Everest IMAX movie filmed during the 1996 tragedy. The students then had to create persuasive brochures as expedition leaders, trying to get others to join them on their trek up the mountain. We generally loved looking on the Internet for more information about expeditions and for photos of the scarier parts of the climb, such as the Khumbu Ice Fall. This experience and opportunity to participate has invigorated us all to get through the end of the school year which runs parallel to your challenge of conquering the mountain. Your strength and perserverance will get us through the end of sophomore year. Thanks for an inspiration and a teaching tool that reaches far beyond what I can give my students within my classroom."
